“The idea of LinkedIn is to genuinely connect with other people.” – Ian Altman
On this episode of Same Side Selling, I discuss LinkedIn. It’s one of the most powerful tools that sales and marketing professionals have ever had access to. However, sales and marketing folks often find ways to use the platform in profoundly ineffective ways.
LinkedIn is a great place to connect with potential customers, prospective employees, and other likeminded folks. But to optimize the platform’s potential, you need to be smart about how you use it.
If you’re looking to optimize the potential of LinkedIn, you’re going to love this episode of Same Side Selling.
Listen to this episode and discover:
- Some common ways that people misuse this great platform.
- Why being smart about your interactions is better for business.
- Specific things you can do to form stronger connections
- And so much more…
Episode Overview
I get a lot of LinkedIn connection requests from people I don’t know. I used to blindly accept all of them. But, I quickly found that accepting every invite opened the floodgates to unsolicited pitches, mailing list invites, and a ton of other networking spam.
I’m not sure who teaches people to use LinkedIn that way. But, one thing is clear: if LinkedIn is going to survive as a resource for sales professionals, we need to use it more responsibly.
Today, I talk about:
- Using LinkedIn to make things better, not worse.
- Personalizing connection invites instead of leaving them blank.
- Why natural connections are always better than forced ones.
- The things that personally make me block someone.
- How to offer value instead of just asking for things.
Remember, no one wants to feel as if they’re being sold to. No one likes to find out that they were added to a random mailing list, either.
People want to form genuine connections. They want to interact with others who have the same passions. They want to connect with folks who don’t just ask for things but who can offer value in return, too.
